A letter to my daughter as she turns 3: The little things I love about you...

To my beautiful little girl,

I know it's a cliche, but the last three years with you really have gone past in the blink of an eye! The transition from 1 to 2 years old didn't seem as emotional, but going from 2 to 3 feels much more poignant.

Perhaps it's because my little girl no longer has her baby features; your face has changed shape from squidgy and round to slim an oval, you've gotten so tall and your hair is beautifully long.

Maybe it's because I can have a conversation with you as if you were an adult! You are wise beyond your years and you know so much - thanks in part to having an older brother to lead the way!

It could be that you will be starting nursery in January, and you're sooo excited about this! "I won't cry when I start nursery Mummy, I'm a big, brave girl now!" You certainly are my darling.

Whatever it is that makes me sad to see my baby growing up (and even more so as you will probably - or if you ask your Daddy - definitely - be my last), there are so many little things about you that I love right now, the things that bring me joy every day, even if I'm feeling a little blue. Every day you always make me smile!

So on the eve of your 3rd birthday, here is a snapshot of a moment in your life.

These are the little things I love about you...

I love the way you pucker up those big, soft lips to give us the best kisses!

I love how much you still love your "Stinky Bunny" but you'll offer her to people if you think they need comfort.

I love how you giggle when I pin you down and smother you in kisses!

I love how you wiggle your hips and shoulders when you're dancing.

I love how excited you are to see me after I've been at work all day or even just away from you for 10 minutes!

I love the way you creep from your room into my bed to snuggle with me during the night! Even if you do take up most of my side, and snore as loud as your Daddy!

I love the way you do a little penguin walk and bite your bottom lip when you're a bit embarrassed or shy!

I love how vampires are called 'dampires.' "But Mummy, I'm not afraid of bats!"

I love the way you always wake up with crazy, wild hair! There's no taming that beast!

I love the sass - the eye rolls and the hair swishes and that little frowny face when you don't get your way!

I love how your detangling hair spray is know as 'tangly tanglier' and you spray it everywhere except your hair when you won't let me help!

I love how you play 'pretend' with your brother so nicely, and that you're starting to come up with the 'pretends' now! "Pretend you're the dog and I'm the mummy! Let's go for a walk doggy, you can have a treat!"

I love it when you tell me that I am "boo-tear-ful" even when I am looking my worst.

I love how much it excites you to wear your wellies and jump in puddles! You really could give Peppa Pig a run for her money!

I love the way your smile lights up your wide, green eyes. It's infectious - you have to smile back!

I love how you try to sing along to everything! The Greatest Showman and Frozen being your favourites.

I love watching you and your brother act out the Strictly dances together each week! The lifts need a little work though! Haha.

I love how excited you were to watch Dr. Ranj dancing every Saturday, and how you comforted your brother when he was devastated he got voted off the show. "It's OK, he has to go back to the hospital to make the poorly children better."

I love your smiley, happy, bubbly personality. You are a joy to be with every day.

My darling girl, I could go on forever. There are so many little things about you that I love, and they change every day! You are growing up to be such a beautiful, kindhearted, sweet and funny little girl. So even though it brings a tear to my eye to let my 'baby' go, it makes me smile to see the wonderful girl you are becoming.

I love you lots like jelly tots - from the top of the sky to the bottom of the sea and more! Happy 3rd birthday my little Squidge.

Love always,
Mummy
x

  4. Beautiful tribute and although mine are now all teenagers I remember 3 being such a fun age when you can see their personalities so well. She has the most amazingly beautiful eyes and we need more kind hearts in the world so that is great too. #MMBC
